Program Review and Planning Session

In June 2013, the Office of Safety and Mission Assurance launched the Safety and Health Learning Alliance (SHLA) knowledge sharing initiative. Originating from an internal request of NASA safety and health professionals, SHLA is an affiliation of agency, Department of Defense, and professional safety and health organizations with the purpose of sharing knowledge and experiences on safety and health topics and issues.

To ensure SHLA events address key safety and health topics within the agency, the September event will be a program review and planning session with discussions on

  • Past events
  • What participants like about the program and potential improvements
  • Ways to expand the program both within and outside the agency
  • Topics NASA's safety and health community would like to learn more about from other agency and defense organizations
To date, nearly 400 safety and health professionals have participated in SHLA featuring speakers from the U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Coast Guard, General Services Administration, Department of Energy, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, NASA Office of the Chief Engineer, and National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health Organization (NIOSH). Topics have included
  • Leading indicators
  • Safety culture
  • Risk assessment
  • Mandatory standards
  • NIOSH resources
